One of the most common FAQs we hear is “Are sub-scooters safe?” Yes, they are very safe, if you’re going with an experienced tour company in a safe location, sub-scooter tours are one of the safest, most memorable water activities you can experience. Here are a few things you should know.
- Always choose a reputable tour company. The activity is around 15 years old, and here at Island Water Sports Hawaii, we’ve been in operation longer than most sub-scooter tour operators in the world. We know the equipment, the dive location, and are familiar with all aspects of the activity. And we have a well-trained staff of divemasters and instructors!
- Communicate with the staff. Although you do not need to know how to swim to enjoy sub-scooters, you should express any concerns you have with the staff. If you’re a little uncomfortable, let them know. Good tour companies know how to make their guests feel safe and comfortable. Our guests are never alone, so you’ll always feel safe.
- Know the sub-scooter restrictions. While almost anyone can participate, sub-scooters are not a one-size-fits-all activity. Riders must be at least 10 years old, at least four feet tall, under 350 pounds, and must be in good health.
- Check how deep you’ll go. We have an amazing location in Maunalua Bay, Oahu, and our tours only need to go 7-8 feet deep to experience spectacular sea life. The current isn’t strong, and the sub-scooter is connected to a floating buoy.
